Things to Do in Lake Tahoe During Winter
Lake Tahoe has activities for every member of the family. This beautiful alpine lake is surrounded by mountains that are perfect for skiing, sledding or sleigh rides. Less outdoorsy family members can take advantage of the casinos, restaurants and shopping available nearby on the south shore of the lake. Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place for downhill skiing. There are several areas available for peaceful back country skiing, if you want to avoid the crowds at the major resorts. The U.S. Forest Service can provide information and regulations for all of Tahoe's back country areas. Heavenly Lake Tahoe is one of the most conveniently located ski resorts in the area, with a great proximity to all the offerings of South Lake Tahoe. Their gondola runs from the center of town up onto the top of the mountain.

Borges Sleigh Rides offers horse-drawn sleighs to give you a scenic tour of Lake Tahoe. It has a variety of antique sleighs, which seat anywhere from two to 20 people. Sleigh rides can be a romantic date or a trip for the whole family.

Because Lake Tahoe does not freeze during the winter, there are opportunities to fish here and in the surrounding areas year-round. There are also several companies that also offer chartered fishing trips out onto the lake. If you have never visited Lake Tahoe before, guided tours are available on snowmobile to show you around the lake. Most of the snowmobile rental companies also offer "self-guided" tours, with maps of the best trails to visit.
GamblingIf you want to head inside at the end of the day, South Lake Tahoe is home to several large casinos. Gambling, shows and dining are all available. The casinos are located right next to the Heavenly Ski Resort, so you can try everything on your trip.
Lake CruisesSeveral companies offer chartered cruises around Lake Tahoe. Boats seen cruising on the lake can hold as many as 150 people, or you could charter a smaller vessel for a romantic evening. The Zephyr Cove Resort offers cruises on a paddlewheel ship, while other companies have glass-bottom boats that allow you to see what is going on beneath the surface of the lake.
